Carovigno is a concentrate of everything you may want from a holiday: the settings of a village on the hills, one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in Italy which includes both a seaside village full of beaches and delightful restaurants overlooking the sea, a Nature Reserve where to experience slow, regenerating and respectful tourism.
Carovigno is just 15 minutes by car from Ostuni, so between the Valle d’Itria (the Trulli Valley) and Salento (the tip of the boot heel) thus absorbing habits, traditions and flavors of these two lands rich in folklore.
The original nucleus of the town is located on a hill about 200 meters above sea level and the historic center still retains the atmosphere of an ancient village.

1. OLD TOWN AND CASTLE
Carovigno has an imposing walls, equipped with ancient towers, which enclose a historic center where you find yourself surrounded with the whiteness of the narrow streets which, as well as being painted white, are adorned with lovely local ceramics and flower pots.
The heart of the historic center is Piazza ‘Nzegna: here the convent of Maria Santissima Del Monte Carmelo, together with the other historic buildings, create a beautiful setting.
With a pleasant walk through the alleys you arrive at the highest point, the Dentice di Frasso Castle, symbol of the town, with its beautiful courtyard dominated by large trees which on hot summer days offer a little shade and coolness.
The first construction of the Castle dates back to 1163 AD. Over the centuries the various lords of the city put their hands on its structure and the current aspect is the one rebuilt after the modifications of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
2. TORRE SANTA SABINA
Just 7 km from the historic center you reach the sea, in the seaside village of Torre Santa Sabina, which represents the meeting place and entertainment on holidays, not only in summer. This district is an agglomeration of low houses, almost all made with the local limestone, typical of the whole Brindisi area. The center of Torre Santa Sabina is precisely constituted by the Tower with an octagonal shape and with the four corners oriented towards the cardinal points; this was born as a watchtower for the small port and entered the defensive system to protect the Apulian coast from the invasions of the Saracens.
3. TORRE GUACETO NATURE RESERVE
In the Torre Guaceto Protected Nature Reserve, you will find the atmosphere of slow and conscious tourism: it is a land-sea ecosystem that embraces several kilometers of coastline and extends inland, also embracing a vast expanse of centuries-old olive trees. The coastal area, even if with the necessary precautions and controls, is suitable for bathing. The Reserve welcomes many activities, including trekking, a recovery center for beached turtles, sustainable fishing, cultivation of the prized Fiaschetto tomato, the beautiful Aragonese tower.
4. STAR RESTAURANT
In the center of Carovigno the reference restaurant is Osteria Gia Sotto l’Arco, with Michelin Star, one of the longest-lived restaurants in Puglia, active since the 1960s.
