Here is our selection of events not to be missed in July in Puglia.
VINO E’ MUSICA
(Grottaglie, July 23 – 27)
The town of ceramics will host the tenth edition of this event with food and wine, music, crafts, taste workshops and guided tastings, proposing again the elements that made it popular: well-known and less known wines from all over Puglia, combined with traditional raw materials reworked from great chefs in street-food. All accompanied by music, art, culture and crafts in the charming location of the ceramics district.
LOCOMOTIVE JAZZ FESTIVAL
(Salento, July)
The Locomotive Jazz Festival is a music festival that hosts world-famous musicians in the splendid Apulian summer nights. This event has a traveling soul that crosses the wonderful Salento countryside and stops off in the most characteristic villages.
The jazz notes of this festival mark the musical days starting from the dawn on Marina Serra di Tricase sea, until the evening with the aperitifs, the literary and cinema meetings in the historical centers of Salento’s villages, and the concert-events in exceptional locations such as the Roman amphitheater. Theater, workshops and street artists enrich the festival program.
LOCUS FESTIVAL
(Locorotondo, July 27 – August 14)
In the heart of the Trulli Valley comes back one of the most international Italian festivals. An event able to blend the magic of the territory with a unique musical and cultural offer.
More and more at the forefront of music, the Locus festival looks beyond sensorial, spatial and temporal boundaries, offering great performances and light installations in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Locorotondo.
This year’s complete line-up boasts names such as Lauryn Hill, FKJ and Mammal Hands.
FESTIVAL DELLA VALLE D’ITRIA
(Martina Franca, July 16 – August 4)
The Valle d’Itria Festival is an international event for opera and symphonic music lovers that takes place every year in the baroque setting of Martina Franca, one of the most beautiful towns in Puglia.
The Valle d’Itria Festival is hosted by the splendid Ducal Palace, but cloisters, churches and ancient farmhouses in the also open their doors to other events.
CAETANO VELOSO LIVE
(Fasano, July 22)
Within the Bari in Jazz festival stands out the concert by the great Caetano Veloso. The Brazilian artist has chosen Fasano to close his brief Italian tour in which he will present his project “Ofertorio – Caetano, Moreno, Zeca, Tom Veloso”.
PALIO DI TARANTO
(Taranto, July 26 – 28)
The Palio of Taranto is a fascinating sporting competition introduced for the first time in 1986 in May during the celebrations in honor of the patron San Cataldo. Over the years, the program of the event has been enriched with the introduction of the Mediterranean regatta held every year on the Festival del Mare (Sea Festival) which takes place on July 26th, 27th and 28th. For over thirty years, during this extraordinary event, the tradition, beauty and sportiness of the competition play a central role with tourists from all over the world, bringing a good audience to admire the crews that rowing in the sea of Taranto, the capital of Magna Grecia.
WORLD DANCE MOVEMENT
(Castellana Grotte, July 7 – 28)
The usual big appointment with international dance is back in the heart of Puglia, with hundreds of dancers from all over the world in Castellana Grotte, known throughout the world for its spectacular underground landscapes.
Also this year there is the participation of dancers from all over Europe, USA, South Africa, Australia, Israel, Mexico, China. A unique event that truly sees the best of dance from around the world gathering in Puglia.
The shows will take place on the evocative churchyard of San Giuseppe Church (Largo Porta Grande) in a fascinating context, with the possibility of tasting excellent local food and wine products, in a sort of big World Dance Movement village.
ALBEROBELLO LIGHT FESTIVAL
(Alberobello, July 20 – 28)
After the great success of the past editions, Alberobello Light Festival returns becoming more and more an International Festival. In fact, the festival will be part of a European network that will have visibility in at least 10 European countries. The Trulli of Alberobello, humanity world heritage, will dress up again with light and brushstrokes of color, creating that dreamy atmosphere that becomes an experience of art.
